A fascinating release from Speyside’s superb Balvenie Distillery. This expression was initially aged in American oak casks, before being transferred over to casks that previously held Pineau from France. This has introduced a generous helping of honey-glazed fruit and a subtle leafy hint to this 16 year old single malt’s flavor profile.
Not so long ago, The Balvenie’s Malt Master, David C Stewart enjoyed a chilled glass of this vin de liqueur of the cognac region. Eager to see what the distinctive flavors of this secretive wine could bring to a The Balvenie Distillery, David brought precious cask that once held this sweet Pineau des Charentes to The Balvenie Distillery; experimenting with the double maturation process, to craft this unique expression.
